Foundation News: March 2018

Message from the Foundation President

Happy Anniversary! This year, we celebrate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the San Francisco State University Foundation. Our progress over the decade has been impressive – the endowment has grown from $40 million to $91 million as of January 31, 2018; more than $20 million in scholarships and faculty support has been awarded. With your continued help, our endowment is on track to reach the $100 million target by 2020—truly an exciting prospect!

I look forward to welcoming you to our upcoming Advance at Oceano Resort and Spa in Half Moon Bay on March 23-24. I’m pleased to report that Chris Larsen, one of SF State’s most generous alumni donors and a true force for economic innovation, will address our group on Saturday. A pioneering expert on cryptocurrency and finance, Chris will share his insights on this fascinating—and timely—topic.

We have planned an enriching, entertaining Friday evening program for you as well. Soumyaa Behrens, the Director of SF State’s Documentary Film Institute will be screening and discussing two short films produced by the Institute. (There will be popcorn!) The level of creativity and professionalism reflected in the Institute’s films is remarkable, and we will see it first-hand at the Advance.

I look forward to a weekend of strategic engagement and collegiality. Your time, dedication, and thoughtful participation are most appreciated.

Thank you,

Robert J. Nava
