San Francisco's City Hall bathed in purple and gold light to celebrate SF State's 2016 Commencement

The photo above, taken just before SF State's graduation ceremony on May 27, is highly symbolic. To see our City Hall awash in SF State's colors reminds us that we make the Bay Area a brighter and more vibrant place to live and work, that we serve a student population drawn largely from our very own neighborhoods and that we are an active and innovative partner with the city. Our students gain practical experience in schools, hospitals, clinics and public offices throughout the region. Our faculty lend their expertise to an array of local and national organizations. Our alumni, more than 80% of whom live in the Bay Area, keep our communities humming. The SF State Foundation is proud to help make this happen.

Today we are making even more of an impact as philanthropic support at SF State has reached an all-time high. As reported at our June board meeting, fundraising far exceeded expectations this year, reaching above $22 million for the first time in SF State history. I thank each of you sincerely for contributing to this extraordinary achievement. Our challenge going forward is to maintain this level of support in order to reach – and indeed surpass – our campaign goal of $150 million. With your enthusiastic and unwavering commitment to SF State and the communities it serves, we can do it!
